en-US;">Several months ago we started tossing around ideas for upcoming covers. We wanted to do a spin on the lemonade stand idea and decided to create a firework stand.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Our décor for the firework stand was created on a whim as the weather<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>has not been very predictable. </span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Book Antiqua"; font-size: 11.0pt; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US;">This is yet another inexpensive and quick way to<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>decorate around the house on a budget and more than likely with items you already have laying around. </span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Book Antiqua"; font-size: 11.0pt; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US;">Several of the items we used are available for download free (see below).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>For our patriotic banner we used cardstock and printed our free download. </span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Book Antiqua"; font-size: 11.0pt; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US;">There are several styles to choose from so have fun picking your favorite. </span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Book Antiqua"; font-size: 11.0pt; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US;">For this look we secured our banner to our twine with tape.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>For a more permanent banner you may want to try a different adhesive like hot glue.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>For our faux fireworks we simple used printed papers (also available as a free download below) and rolled them in a cylinder. I used a sponge, that I cut in the shape of a star, dipped in paint to add a little texture and definition to the look. Kelly and I went on a local shopping spree the day before the shoot to look for anything we could find to give us some ‘fire’. </span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <br /></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none;"> <span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Book Antiqua"; font-size: 11.0pt; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US;">For the hanging rocket I simply used poster board rolled and taped. Spray paint blue and allow it to dry completely. Use the star shaped sponge dipped in paint to decorate. After it dries use your favorite scrapbook papers to create the cone shape for the nose and the fins. I have found websites that offer marquee letters for $189 minimum per letter. You can do this free hand if you do not have a projector. After cutting them out with the razor knife, I drilled holes for my string lights with a power drill. This step can be done with the razor knife.. Using the hot glue gun, I then attached 2 inch strips of poster board to the edges. Spray paint with your favorite color and allow it to dry well. Use screwdriver and hammer to cut your opening. I am definitely one of these included as I enjoy spending time in the kitchen making new things. I painted the edging with chalkboard paint so that I could make this a decoration when I am not using it. I used a scrabble tile holder along the bottom to hold the tablet. The back of the cutting board has a triangle cut piece of wood that I painted green to match.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Follow the directions with your chalkboard paint to ensure you<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>cure it correctly. I used industrial strength glue to adhere the bottom lip and the back bracing board. People always seem to want to collect and save things to give to me so that I can turn them into something new. For the past couple of years I have been trying to decide what to do with them<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>aside from storing them in empty plastic pickle jugs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>So, this is what I decided to try!</span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination: none; text-align: center; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <span lang="en-US" style="font-family: "Book Antiqua"; font-size: 11.0pt; language: en-US; mso-ansi-language: en-US;">You will need an Exacto knife or sharp tool to carve the cork from the top. Mini magnets and hot glue are also needed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Once you have a good depth for the cork<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>adhere your magnets and allow the hot glue to dry.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Use small plants that need little water (air plants or succulents or cacti<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>will work best) and insert them into your cork. I get my creativity and craftiness from my grandmother, “Ma”. She handmade a Christmas Bell countdown that hung on the wall along with our other holiday décor. Normally I saw these made with paper links, but ours had chocolate kisses! Each night we would take a kiss until they were all gone...on Christmas Eve. Each day had a special surprise inside. I took two 16 x 20 canvases and painted them. Take 24 clothespins and adhere Christmas scrapbook paper to them. Hot glue them to the canvas. The numbers were printed on top of digital scrapbook paper that and punched with a circle scalloped 1.5' punch. Years ago I worked in a restaurant that sold deserts in these mini buckets. Most people just threw them away (crazy right?) so I collected them and put them up for a rainy day! I found the old potato chip display at the thrift store for less than a buck. I made chalkboard labels by using a craft punch and cardstock along with chalkboard paint. All the evergreen swag was a yard sale find for a quarter. Inside each bucket I place different activities to do each night until Christmas. A few are a clue as to where a small gift might be hidden.
